IONIAN CENTRE

IONIAN CENTRE

The Ionian Center is a multi-functional cultural center, conceived and initiated by the Holy Diocese of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Herakleion and Chalcedon of the Church of Greece in Nea Ionia, Athens, Greece. The Ionian Center will be erected on a 7 stremmas  plot at the junction of Heraklion Avenue and Al. Papanastassiou Str., Building Block #445, Municipality of Nea Ionia, Athens, Greece), right across the Perissos Metro Station.

The Urban Design approach of the project is derived from the intention to radically improve and enhance access and connectivity of the site with its immediate surrounding areas. The creation of a public Esplanade and Green Area, crossing the entire site from its eastern edge across the Perissos Metro Station to the sporting grounds and linear park to its west, is essential for the project’s outreach.

The building components of the complex are arranged around this central public green space and landscaped garden. A Church dedicated to Saint George of Neapolis, will act as a major popular attraction to the site and the focal point of the landscaping. The Ionian Center is planned as a central spatial factor of community life, intergrating a building comlex of a kindergarden, with a capacity of 60 kids, a small guest house, a small museum of ecclesiastical heirlooms, a Research and Conference Center, which includes an auditorium with the capasity of aprox. 380 people, meeting rooms, auxiliary spaces and a refectory-dining area, with indoor and outdoor capasity of 200 people, and an underground parking facility, with a capacity of over 250 vehicles.
